How To Measure Trailer Axle
To measure a trailer axle, first, you need to identify the type of trailer axle. There are two types of trailer axles, including the straight axle and drop axle. The straight axle is mounted directly below the trailer deck, while the drop axle is mounted a few inches below the trailer deck.
Here are the steps to measure a trailer axle:
Measure the length of the axle from one end to the other. You can use a tape measure for this.
Determine the weight capacity of the axle. Look for the manufacturer's sticker on the axle or consult the trailer owner's manual.
Measure the distance between the center of the left and right springs. This is the spring center measurement.
Measure the distance between the hub face and the spring pad. This is the hub face measurement.
Measure the diameter of the axle tube. This is the tube diameter measurement.
By knowing these measurements, you can select a new axle for your trailer or replace a damaged axle.
